Abstract

This study aims to examine how the implementation of parenting styles relates to the social behavior of children aged 5–6 years at TK Teratai UNM. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method conducted at TK Teratai UNM. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving three parents, the school principal, two teachers, and three children. The focus of this study was on authoritarian parenting practices and the social behaviors of children aged 5–6 years, including their ability to share, interact with peers, and demonstrate independence. The findings revealed that the parenting style applied by parents significantly influences the development of children’s social behavior. Authoritarian parenting tends to produce obedient children who, however, lack self-confidence and are passive in social interactions. In contrast, democratic parenting encourages children to be more open, independent, and socially competent, while permissive parenting often leads to children being less disciplined and struggling to understand social boundaries. In conclusion, the appropriate and consistent implementation of parenting styles is crucial in supporting the development of children’s social behavior. Among the three, democratic parenting proves to be the most effective in fostering positive social behavior in early childhood.
