Abstract

Nutritional deficiencies (wasting) and short stature (stunting) are among the major health problems in a country, which can lead to morbidity rates. Based on the results of the Indonesian Ministry of Health's Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the prevalence of stunting and wasting in Indonesia remains quite high. The prevalence of wasting is 7.7%, and stunting reaches 21.6% in 2022. The prevalence of stunting still exceeds the threshold set by the World Health Organization (WHO) of 20%. Petungsewu Village, Dau District, Malang Regency is one of the areas under the guidance of the Midwifery Department of the Malang Ministry of Health Polytechnic, which also has problems with wasting and stunting cases of 2.7% and 8.3%. One of the factors causing nutritional problems in infants and toddlers is the pattern of nutrition provision. Efforts to prevent these nutritional problems include providing appropriate, nutritious, and balanced complementary foods. The Indonesian Ministry of Health's recommendations on the provision of local complementary foods can ensure the continuation of good eating habits in children after the age of 2 years. Health volunteers can be involved through empowerment through complementary feeding training using the EMO-DEMO method, with detailed activities including training, mentoring cadres when implementing in the community, monitoring and evaluation, and building a community of "empowered Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), preventing wasting and stunting.
