Abstract

Verbal abuse committed by parents to children is an act of violence that can have an impact on children, one of which is children behaving aggressively. Because when children get verbal abuse attacks from parents, children can vent their anger or frustration by behaving aggressively and children can also imitate and practice what parents or people around them do. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between verbal abuse of parents and aggressive behavior in elementary school children in Lumbungsari Village, Ciamis Regency. This type of research is quantitative correlation with a cross-sectional approach. The population and sample in this study amounted to 88 respondents with questionnaires as a measuring tool. The sampling technique used total sampling, This study was conducted using the chi-square test. The results showed that of 88 child respondents experienced verbal abuse of parents in the weight category as much as 51 (58%), and aggressive behavior in children with the weight category as much as 51 (58%). Based on the chi-squre test, a p-value of 0.002 <0.05 was obtained, which means that Ha was accepted with children who experienced severe verbal abuse and severe aggressive behavior as many as 37 people (72.5%). So it can be concluded that there is a relationship between verbal abuse of parents and aggressive behavior in elementary school children in Lumbungsari Village, Ciamis Regency. Researchers advise parents to pay more attention to child development, improve good and appropriate parenting for children and improve communication between parents and children.
